Taormina, what to see in 2 days

On holiday in Taormina: what to see in 2 days?

I am Francesco, CEO of Sicily Rent Car and car travel has always been my passion. When I created my company I felt that the time had come to rediscover my land and share its beauty.

Today I take you to discover the colorful Taormina, for a happy weekend to spend on the beach and at the theater.

Taormina – Beaches

Taormina Spiaggia

The best beaches of Taormina on a tour of relaxation, unforgettable views and diving into a dream sea.

Isola Bella: an unforgettable show

Isola Bella is a small nature reserve immersed in cobalt blue water. You can reach it on foot from the beach by crossing a small strip of land that appears and disappears depending on the tides (the water reaches the maximum at the knee).

The beach is made of pebbles, so remember to bring your beach shoes! There are equipped beaches if you need refreshment.

Rates and timetables

Access to the beaches is free, while access to the island costs €4.00.

Every day except Monday from 09:00 a.m. until one hour before sunset.

How to get there

It is 7km from Taormina and you can reach it on foot thanks to a walk that leads to the access on the main road.

Naxos Gardens

A small fishing village that in recent decades has established itself as a tourist resort, with wonderful beaches for all tastes: we find both soft beaches with fine sand and beaches formed by small stones.

The beach of Recanati is ideal for those who are looking for fun thanks to the presence of many clubs, restaurants and discos. It is also very appreciated by families, due to the composition of its seabed that descends gradually away from the shore and the presence of bathing establishments and free beaches.

Lovers of fine sand will find the beach of Schisò paradise, divided between free and paid beaches and surrounded by the magic of lush vegetation.

Also of fine sand is the beach of San Giovanni, behind which there is the historic centre, perfect for an ice cream and a walk.

If you are looking for relaxation, the beach of Porticciolo Saia is perfect for you. Never too crowded, it stands out for its lava rocks.

How to get there

It is 5 km from Taormina and you can reach it on foot following the signs.

Taormina – Center

Corso Umberto is the main street that crosses the entire centre of Taormina.

A stroll through luxury boutiques, jewellers, clothing and souvenir shops; it is no coincidence that Taormina is nicknamed “the Saint Tropez Siciliana”.

But the Corso is also a long succession of churches and palaces of different architectural styles, a clear sign of the influences of the people who conquered Sicily. At every step in its alleys opens a new glimpse or an unexpected panorama, it would take a whole day just to explore them all!

Taormina – Theatre

teormina_anfiteatro

What I love the most about this theatre is certainly the view: a real terrace overlooking the sea and the imposing Etna.

After the one in Syracuse it is the biggest theatre of Greek origin in the whole Sicily and it is surely the most famous one thanks to the events and concerts that every year attract artists and fans from all over the world.

Here you can find the calendar.

The magic of a sunset immersed in a dreamy atmosphere, with the lights that illuminate the ancient ruins, takes you back to savour other eras.

Rates and timetables

Full single ticket: € 10,00

The Theatre is reopened to the public from May 30, 2020. During this period the Theatre is open from 17 to 22.

How to get there

You can walk to it by following the signs.

SUMMARY + TIPS

Taormina is a must if you visit Sicily, a country so colorful that you’ll feel like you’ve walked into a painting.

Prepare your camera to capture the beautiful views that will leave an indelible mark on your heart.

Travel moments

The ideal time for a tour in Taormina is spring/autumn.

I do not recommend going in summer and especially in August, because the village fills up with tourists and you risk not enjoying the trip.

On weekends in summer the main beaches are very crowded, if you can choose I suggest you to go during the week.
