If you are on holiday in Sicily, you cannot miss the majesty of the Valley of the Temples of Agrigento.
Hi I’m Ester, a landscape photographer in search of wonders to show. Sicily has always been my favorite destination; I return here every summer, rent a car with Sicily Rent Car and travel to discover unique views to photograph.
Today I take you for a walk through history, for an incredible look from the top of a perfectly preserved temple.
The Valley of the Temples of Agrigento

The city of Akragas was founded by settlers coming partly from Gela and partly from Rhodes in 580 B.C., it reached 200,000 inhabitants and its hill of Temples was so large that it occupied the whole southern part of the city.
I made the visit with a guide and I found it very interesting, it was really nice to listen to her telling with great passion stories and myths of the place.
Alternatively you can also rent the audio guide or download the free app that describes the site, in my opinion you can appreciate the tour much more and also get some information about the finds.
The Temple of Concordia is the one that really left me breathless, maybe also because it is one of the best preserved in the Greek world.
Another thing that I really appreciated is the accessibility: there are in fact ramps to reach the various artifacts and today you can move even renting an electric scooter inside!

Where to park
Outside the valley there is a large parking lot where you can leave your car comfortably.
The archaeological park is not to be missed on your tour in Sicily, a walk through history that takes you back through the centuries and leaves you speechless in front of the majesty of its temples.
Travel moments
The ideal time for a tour of the Valley of the Temples is spring/autumn.
If you travel in summer I suggest you to go early in the morning or late in the evening because the tour lasts about 3 hours and gets very heavy during the hottest hours. In this case in my opinion the best choice is to go in the late afternoon, so you can enjoy the spectacle of the temples at sunset and then in the evening, illuminated in the darkness of the night are an unforgettable sight.
In any case, remember to bring water with you and wear comfortable shoes.
