Seafront walls and limestone rocks: for climbers from all over the world the cliffs of Cala Mancina are a true paradise.
Since 2009 San Vito Lo Capo has been the destination of one of the most popular climbing festivals, the San Vito Lo Capo Climbing Festival which takes place between October and November.
I met by chance an association that organizes excursions even for beginners and it was a really incredible experience, one of the most terrifying and at the same time exciting things I have ever done in my life.
I have difficulty describing exactly what I felt, to give you an idea I’ll let you read an excerpt from my diary:
I’ve learned that travel is like a mountain climb:
The greatest fear is inside my head,
it’s the partner that makes the difference.
Like when, face to the wall, all I could think about was…
that I couldn’t overcome that obstacle.
But the voice said to me, „move your hand to the right,
that you have a foothold that you can’t see.“
Or when the wall looked smooth and I thought I’d quit.
But the voice incited me, „trust your legs…
even though the supports are really small,
that right afterwards there’s a good grip and
a balcony on which you can rest.
